Causes of blackheads

A blackhead is the type of acne that people are most afraid of. Not because it is serious but because it looks the most unattractive and people always try to cover it up or pop it. They are caused by a build up of oil in the skin and this clogs up the pores and forms a spot, or blackhead. Dead skin cells also cause the blockage in the pores and are a major contributor to the blackhead occuring.

So, one of the ways you can prevent blackheads from appearing is to keep your skin and clean as possible. Removing excess dirt, bacteria and dead skin cells is the number one cure for acne prevention. This can be done simply by washing yourself everyday with either soap and water or a cleansing lotion. This may sound too simple but it really is the best way to prevent acne from breaking out.

There are of course many over the counter acne treatments you can use if acne is already appearing. These will generally be mild and will help treat small outbreaks of acne. If your acne is more severe then you should seek professional medical help and advice. It is vital to treat acne as soon as possible, as if you just leave it then acne scarring can occur once the acne disappears.

One thing you must really try to avoid doing is popping your spots or blackheads. This just causes the bacteria to be spread over a wider area and can cause more spots to appear. So even if you have a date or social meeting, popping that zit may only cause a larger amount of them appearing. So no matter how tempted you are, just remember that it will almost certainly be gone in just a couple of days. So try to leave it alone!
